Capacity-Building Programme: Executive Leadership

The Economic Development Board (EDB), as host agency of the SheTrades Mauritius Hub, hosted a high-impact capacity-building programme on Executive Leadership on Tuesday, 24th June 2025. The workshop was facilitated by Mrs. Edyta Ozbek, Founder and CEO of NEU Professionals, a UK based international healthcare recruitment agency. The workshop brought together both aspiring and established women entrepreneurs for an insightful and practical leadership development experience.

In her welcome remarks, Mrs. Nirmala Jeetah, Director of Bio-Industry, Project Development and SheTrades Mauritius Hub, emphasised that effective leadership is rooted in sound decision-making, meaningful engagement and the ability to empower others. She noted that by fostering leadership at all levels, businesses can drive, inspire innovation and sustained growth.

The event was honoured by the presence of Mrs. Natacha Emilien, the newly appointed Board Member of the Economic Development Board and Chairwoman of Attitude Property Ltd. In her address, Mrs. Emilien shared insights from her personal leadership journey highlighting the importance of kindness, empathy, authenticity, resilience and vision in leading effectively, particularly within the entrepreneurial landscape. Her message underscored the vital role of women in shaping the economic future of Mauritius.

Mrs. Edyta Ozbek delivered a comprehensive and engaging workshop, drawing on her extensive international experience. She delved into the foundational leadership styles, shedding light on how different approaches can be strategically applied based on the traits and motivations of followers. Her presentation was enriched by real-world case studies, offering practical perspectives on navigating contemporary leadership challenges.

A key highlight of the session was the emphasis on team dynamics and the creation of high-performance teams, particularly within lean or resource-constrained environments. Mrs. Ozbek explored actionable strategies for aligning team strengths with organisational goals, fostering collaboration and managing intergenerational teams effectively, a growing imperative in today’s diverse workplace.

The workshop also addressed the strategic role of organisational culture, with participants introduced to various cultural archetypes and frameworks. Mrs. Ozbek emphasised that sustainable success requires a delicate balance between innovation and operational stability, a dual capacity that enables organisations to remain competitive while adapting to constant change.

Through interactive discussions and hands-on exercises, participants left the session equipped with practical tools and renewed perspectives to lead with purpose, confidence and impact.
