The Economic Development Board, host agency of the SheTrades Mauritius Hub, held a capacity-building workshop on New Budgetary Measures on Tuesday, 14th October 2025. The session aimed to acquaint women-led MSMEs with key fiscal provisions announced in the National Budget 2025, supporting their compliance effort and business development. This initiative forms part of an ongoing endeavour to help women entrepreneurs scale their operations, strengthen their competitiveness and explore new market opportunities.
In her welcome address, Mrs Nirmala Jeetah emphasised the importance of equipping women entrepreneurs with a strong understanding of current fiscal matters. She highlighted that such knowledge is essential in enabling these women make informed decisions, seize growth opportunities and contribute to a more inclusive and resilient economic landscape.
The workshop was delivered by Mrs Pratima Puholoo, Section Head of the Operational Services Department at the MRA and Mrs Zaheedah Subdar, Section Head of the Medium and Small Taxpayer Department at the MRA. Both presenters gave an in-depth overview of key fiscal reforms introduced through the Finance Act 2025.

Mrs Pratima Puholoo outlined key fiscal measures including revised income tax rates and the Fair Share Contribution programme effective as from July 2025. She detailed corporate tax payment procedures, penalties and interest mechanisms as per the Income Tax Act and the Tax Arrears Settlement Scheme. Additionally, she explained the current salary compensation and income support provisions under the National Budget 2025, as well as the current and projected social contribution income allowance, providing participants with clear guidance on compliance and planning.

Mrs Zaheedah Subdar provided detailed insights into the newly introduced Tax Dispute Settlement Scheme and the Voluntary Disclosure Settlement Scheme, both designed to encourage greater compliance and transparency within the tax system. She further elaborated on updates related to the Value Added Tax (VAT), including the application of VAT on digital services, amendments concerning credit input tax and the operational modalities of the VAT Deferred Payment Scheme. In addition, Mrs Subdar discussed the expansion of zero-rated supplies and transitional provisions governing the implementation of the new measures.
Their presentations offered a clear understanding of the evolving fiscal framework and its implications on business operations, enabling women entrepreneurs to better adapt to these regulatory changes.
