The SheTrades Annual Meeting held at the headquarters of the International Trade Centre, Geneva from September 9 to 13, 2024, aimed to empower women entrepreneurs and elevate their roles in the global economy. The event brought together women entrepreneurs, policymakers, and international stakeholders to discuss on strategies to enhance women’s engagement in trade and business. Representatives from 18 SheTrades Hubs, along with the two regional hubs for MENA and the Caribbean participated in the discussions.
Central to the meeting were dialogues focused on uncovering new global opportunities for women entrepreneurs, sharing best practices, and fostering pathways for their entry into international markets. The event served as an ideal platform to reinforce initiatives from the SheTrades Mauritius Hub, highlighting its commitment to empowering women through trade while prioritizing inclusive growth and sustainability. These discussions were pivotal in fostering greater collaboration and ensuring that women entrepreneurs are equipped to access international markets and drive long-term success.
As one of the speakers, Mrs. Nirmala Jeetah from the Economic Development Board (EDB) who oversees the SheTrades Mauritius Hub, made a presentation on the activities undertaken by Mauritius and the hub’s role as a resource centre. She highlighted the support extended to women entrepreneurs, showcasing how the hub serves as a vital platform for accessing market information, training programs, and business development opportunities. Mrs. Jeetah emphasized the importance of connecting with other SheTrades Hubs globally, and the necessity of fostering cross-border collaboration to expand the reach and impact of women entrepreneurs.
Dr. Michelle Kristy from the International Trade Centre shared invaluable insights on leveraging the SheTrades Hubs as resource centres, particularly in providing market information to empower women entrepreneurs to trade effectively. Additionally, Ms. Anne Chappaz emphasized the importance of implementing an impact and measurement system, which would contribute to building an effective monitoring and evaluation framework. She also stressed the need to forge strategic partnerships, ensuring that women entrepreneurs receive the necessary support to grow and succeed in global markets.
