About the event

In line with ongoing efforts to promote inclusive intra-African trade—particularly for women-led businesses—Rwanda has been identified as the host country for the upcoming SheTrades Hub-to-Hub initiative.

This Hub-to-Hub collaboration is a strategic initiative aligned with the mandate of the Economic Development Board (EDB) to promote the export of goods and services, advance Mauritius’ Africa strategy, and enhance the visibility of women-led enterprises in high-potential regional markets.

The mission will provide participating businesses with the opportunity to identify concrete business prospects, establish direct linkages with buyers and partners, and engage in structured knowledge exchange and market intelligence. Ultimately, it aims to foster sustainable commercial partnerships and support the internationalisation of women entrepreneurs.

The initiative is also fully aligned with the priorities of the International Trade Centre (ITC) SheTrades programme, which promotes regional Hub-to-Hub collaborations to expand market access, strengthen peer learning, and build sustainable ecosystems that empower women in trade.

Rwanda offers significant opportunities across a range of sectors, including hospitality, ICT, wellness, agro-processing, and the creative industries. There is also growing demand for premium niche products such as textiles, artisanal goods, and processed foods, creating promising entry points for Mauritian enterprises.

With its stable business environment, sustained economic growth, and strong policy commitment to gender inclusion, Rwanda stands out as an ideal gateway for Mauritian women entrepreneurs seeking to expand into East Africa. Its regional proximity, coupled with increasing demand for high-quality products and services, further enhances its attractiveness as a strategic market.

The country also benefits from a well-established SheTrades Hub led by the private sector, alongside strong government support for women’s economic empowerment, providing a solid ecosystem for business development and cross-border collaboration.

Enhance market readiness by providing targeted capacity-building sessions aligned with the specific requirements, regulations, and consumer trends of each market.

Regional Collaboration

Strengthen regional collaboration among SheTrades Hubs and contribute to building a stronger, interconnected African women-in-trade ecosystem.

AfCFTA Protocol

Advance the AfCFTA Protocol on Trade in Services, particularly in ICT, education, and training services, by facilitating cross-border service delivery and partnerships.

Programme of work

Day 1 - Training on Trade Maps

ITC’s Trade and Market Intelligence (TMI) section has developed a suite of innovative online tools to make global trade more transparent and facilitate market access for policymakers and trade actors. These tools allow users to examine trade statistics, tariffs, official market access regulations and company contacts in potential markets.

Trade Map covers 220 countries and territories and 5300 products of the Harmonized System. Monthly, quarterly and yearly trade flows are available from the most aggregated level to the tariff line level.

The activity will focus on showcasing ready-to-eat and frozen products such as dal puri, farata, and choko dumplings, which combine traditional Mauritian flavours with modern convenience.

During the mission, the company aims to establish strategic partnerships with distributors, retailers, and foodservice operators, while assessing consumer preferences, regulatory requirements, and logistics for regional expansion. Shreya Foods will also engage in B2B meetings and product presentations to position Mauritian cuisine within the East African market.

This initiative aligns with the company’s broader export strategy to expand into new markets, promote Mauritian culinary heritage, and contribute to the growth of value-added food exports from Mauritius.
