Empowering Women Entrepreneurs: A workshop on Health and Wellness for Sustainable Growth

As part of its capacity-building program, the SheTrades Mauritius Hub, in collaboration with the Indian Business Council, organized a workshop on Women’s Health and Wellness on Friday, 15th November 2024. The workshop was conducted by Dr Ravneet Kaur Gulati, an experienced psychiatrist and professor at the Anna Medical College of Mauritius. This initiative marked another milestone in the hub’s ongoing efforts to promote women’s welfare and economic growth. It addressed the often-overlooked issue of the mental and physical strain experienced by women entrepreneurs due to high-stress lifestyles.
In her welcome address, Mrs Nirmala Jeetah, Director of the Bio Industry, Project Development, and SheTrades Mauritius Hub at the Economic Development Board laid emphasis upon the challenges women entrepreneurs face while balancing personal commitments and business responsibilities. She encouraged them to prioritize self-care as a means to build resilience and foster innovation in their ventures.
Dr Suresh Nanda, President of the Indian Business Council reaffirmed the Council’s unwavering commitment to partnering with the SheTrades Mauritius Hub in delivering programs designed to empower women in business and drive their economic growth.

Dr Gulati was very pragmatic in her approach and quickly captured the audience’s attention with her engaging speech. She acknowledged that stress is inevitable and emphasized the importance of building mental resilience to mitigate its potentially devastating effects.

Key takeaways from the event included the significance of expressing gratitude, savouring positive experiences, fostering social connections, exercising, and practicing altruism as essential elements of a fulfilling lifestyle. Activities like mindfulness, deep breathing, or a short walk can help reduce stress and restore focus. Building resilience equips entrepreneurs to bounce back from setbacks, adapt to challenges, and maintain optimism even in tough times. Emotional intelligence focusing on understanding and managing emotions while empathizing with others contributes to enhance decision-making, strengthens relationships, and fosters effective leadership. Together, these practices act as steadfast companions, enabling women entrepreneurs to navigate their journey with confidence, clarity, and balance.

The event was also an opportunity for like-minded women entrepreneurs to connect and share their experiences.
