Mr Sunil Boodhoo
Sunil Boodhoo joined the public service as a trade policy analyst in 1991. He was promoted to the position of Deputy Director, Trade Policy in 2002, and then to Director in 2016 , position which he held until his retirement in Nov last year.
He was responsible for formulating and implementing the trade policy of Mauritius. In this capacity, he was also designated the chief negotiator of Mauritius in trade negotiations at the j Multilateral, Regional and Bi-lateral levels, in addition to being appointed chief technical negotiator for the Eastern and Southern Africa group. He has an impressive track record, as evidenced by the number of trade agreements he has negotiated for Mauritius and fot the region, such as the Economic Partnership Agreement with the EU, the EPA with the UK, COMESA, SADC, AfCFTA, FTA with China, CECPA with India, CEPA with the UAE. He was also responsible for implementing lobbying strategies for the AGOA. These agreements eliminated tariff and non-tariff barriers for our exports and, thereby, provided a competitive advantage to Mauritius in key markets. He has equally contributed to modernising the intellectual property rights framework of Mauritius, as well as the legal framework protecting the local industry against unfair trade practices.
